Character Age: 27, but physically a 12 year old.
Canon: Xenosaga takes place thousands of years in the future. Earth is "lost," and humanity now spans to the ends of the universe. However, all are at risk due to a constant threat of hostile aliens known as Gnosis. So you know what that means: it's time for a team of heroes to venture through this universe, fight Gnosis and unlock the mysteries behind them, as well as so much more. One of these heroes is Gaignun Kukai Jr., a boy who loves collecting antique guns and books, who helps direct a huge space colony. That sounds odd for a 12 year old boy, doesn't it? In reality, Jr. is much older, but that's just one of his many secrets.

Jr. acts both the age he looks and the age he really is, depending on what the situation calls for. Generally he's kind, passionate and open, and sometimes he's just downright dorky. Particularly when he's using his guns in a serious battle and mimicing moves he's seen in classic action movies during it. His childish traits and adventurous attitude make him well loved by people who live in his colony. He can be stubborn, and at times he's quick to anger, which sometimes results in acting on his emotions rather than holding back and thinking first. But being an adult inside, Jr. can lead, strategize and jump right into the fray of things to fight when the going gets tough. He's not afraid to make the tough decisions, and he's very well aware of what's going on around him. Jr. is also forward, and not afraid to speak his mind.

I gotta say, I'd much rather get the general "take this really nice gun and wing it from there" treatment that all of the 13-and-over campers get when they come here. At least they get, like I said, a really nice gun out of that. Because I'm not really liking this mandatory summer camp activities for kids program they gave me instead. Pine-cone bird feeders are a classic idea, but zombie feeders? I don't even wanna think about what you'd need to put on a pine-cone to feed them. The three-legged race lost its point when our decaying participants started losing actual legs. And the "welcome to camp" finger puppet show isn't, well... welcoming, especially with that demonstration of the gorillas and what they do when you don't want to get up in the morning.

The card games I do like, though! It was fun teaching some of those toucans the basics of Poker and Old Maid. But after that, it was so weird that they stopped losing completely. I know a lot of card games require strategy, but there's also the luck of the draw that plays into it, too. Haha, you'd think they have some kind of psychic powers or something, since I didn't notice any signs of cheating no matter how hard I was looking out for it. But I'm a pretty lucky guy, too, so next time when I teach them how to play Texas Hold'em I'll be sure to win! Next up on the roster is swimming practice with Marcy. And I like the water, buuuuut I think I'm gonna skip that and sneak off for a while, instead. There's only so many camp activities a day I can take! I'm thinking of heading over to that shooting range I saw earlier, getting some practice in will definitely be a lot more fun than the weird puppet shows and the racing, even if I don't have a new weapon to try out for it...

Which brings me back to my equal opportunity point. It's really not fair that I don't get one of those free shotguns just because I'm enrolled in that stupid kids program instead! Nobody else here even realizes how lucky they are to get a gun like that for free! They're in such good condition for being so old, too... man, I'd have to pay an arm and leg for one like that back home! So, how 'bout this? I prove it to all of you higher-ups and your director that I definitely don't belong in the kids program, and maybe you'll change your minds and let me have one of those, instead of a... Nerf N-Strike Vulcan Blaster. Now, see these here? These guns are actually mine, so I'm well aware of proper handling and safety! Look, I'll even show you. Hold it firm and steady, don't finger the trigger too hard while it's up or else you might slip and unload onto someone's face. Safety is always important, so make sure to put that on when not in use or reloading...

I'd definitely be willing to forgive all of those forced activities if we came to some kind of agreement on this. I can even show you guys what a great aim I am! So let's dump those Marcy swimming lessons and have some real fun in that shooting range for a while! I really think this is... huh? What do you mean I'm not allowed in there? I just said that I'm--

Ahhh, Yzak~ My first character ever who I still have. Once upon a time I would have said that I'd drop the whole game if I dropped Yzak. That is not the case anymore, but that has had/will always have ZERO impact on any thoughts in the past present and future about dropping him. Yzak had his glory days, so I'm zen with him not being as out as he used to be. Recently I became zen in general with the idea of backburners or not getting out much and all that jazz - but before that I used to be all D: and flail a lot over feeling bad about this.

Yzak's come close to the dropboat a few times! Sometimes because of the above mentioned and sometimes because it got so frustrating because I don't have the same oomph for him. After I got Jr., I don't want to say Yzak's gotten boring, or harder to play, but at the same time it's the only way I can try to explain it in comparison to something? I just love Yzak, so sometimes I go "HE NEEDS TO BE OUT HE IS *YZAK* and get all upset. It was even more frustrating when I was trying to play him more but it resulted in quickly dead threads or just losing the motivation.

But I am zen now! Yzak's been out a little more, I always knew I would never drop him if Dearka or the rest of the SEED cast ever dropped - they make things more FUN, but I love Yzak so that's not reliant on anything else but that when it comes to keeping him or dropping him. He gets out when I am in the mood for him, and when I am his voice comes easily for me, and I am fine with that. He'd probably be second on the drop list out of my three, but I'm currently not thinking about doing that evar.

He's catching up to you Yzak. XD I have not really considered dropping Jr. ever! Like all of my characters I flail and worry over voice and everything, but lack of ass kickings helps with that. Jr. also comes easy to me and I am always in the mood to play him! Because he's just so easy to talk to people in every which way, depending on where things go.

I never really seriously considered dropping him, only in those bouts of "oh god I suck help me!" emo that a lot of people tend to get. I admit there are circumstances that would make me just want to drop him but I try not to think of what if scenarios. XD Because I do not ever want to be there. As for canonmates no, I wouldn't drop if they did - I started out as alone warrior because I loev him and like Yzak his stay in camp isn't reliant on anything else like that. Jr. is last on my drop list because he is my primary and I adore him to pieces.

He'd be first if I were to drop anyone. XD And I always knew this from before I apped him, which isn't to say I want to drop him at all! Because I don't, and am fine with him being a backburner. I'd like to say I'm cool with his voice and got better as responding over my first couple of weeks of SLOW RESPONDING AS I KILLED MY BRAINS TO THINK AND FREAK OUT.

ONCE AGAIN like Jr. and Yzak, Carlos has no canonmates as it is but if he ever got them that would be GRAND (APPJILL) but would not affect my keeping him. He's not exactly a relief character either - ie someone to play when I am not in the mood for anyone else. Carlos is more of a "I love this character and really want to play him" type, who I'll toss out when I feel like it. Because I think about him and just go "god he is awesome, let me switch into his account."

Okay I decided to make a seperate OOC post for this note since I has PICTURES and stuff.

Basically an Encephalon dive is the same thing as a virtual reality dive to places (only in Xeno it's also real as in if you die/get hurt/something happens it ... actually happens to you, Encephalon is a reconstruction of a place based on sombody's having been there before, access through the green dive device). Since this is a one-time, one-post thing, the dive area is only secluded to the Kukai private beach area, but the view and everything from it is all clear and pretty and there, too.

Which is to say, here are some caps of the beach itself and some of the view from it!

This is it from afar! And as the second pic shows, there is a dock right off to the left that you can't really see in the first pic.

This is the small ... chill house thing, mostly just with tables.

SO I FEEL THE NEED TO POST THIS HERE, what with the summaries and uploads of the XenoKomi videos. (found here in the Xenosaga Freaks section, for the record~! o/ Now updated with links to the summaries.)

Basically, I love Jr. He is special and TOTALLY MATURE. And these tidbits just made me laugh.

--- KOS-MOS tells Jr. that Allen was alone with Shion in her room, and Jr. gets the wrong idea about that, thanks to her! Then Jr. tries explaining to KOS-MOS that she POSSIBLY SHOULD NOT BE SPYING ON SHION or sending her messages if she is alone with a guy. But he settles instead on getting details, and when he talks to Allen later, he thinks Allen is playing dumb with him when he really has no idea what Jr. is hinting at. XD Then after he talks to Shion he gets a plan to PLAY MATCHMAKER ... using his 'superior skills with women.' \o\

--- When Ziggy gets bored at one point he starts to count to himself. Jr. shows up and Ziggy keeps counting as he talks to him. ... Jr. being the mature man he is keeps saying random numbers to try and mess Ziggy up along the way, which works but Ziggy never notices. But he does get mad at Jr. doing that all the same. XD When Jr. finally leaves, Ziggy remarks "He acts like a child ... 597." And Jr. RUNS BACK INTO THE ROOM just to go "512!!!!" and Ziggy is like "GET THE FUCK OUT."

Jr.
His mind wavers between the steadiness and the non-steadiness.

A Representative Director of the Kukai Foundation. His hobby is collecting ancient text and literature, as well as ancient (relative to his time period) weapons. The official records state that he was born in T.C. 4755 and is the adopted son of Gaignun Kukai.

One of the surviving U.R.T.V. units, he is a human specially "created" as an antithesis to U-DO, the living consciousness which jeopardized the Galaxy Federation in the past.

* Enneagram type
According to Enneagram personality classification, Jr., in his connection to people, is classified with a type-8 characteristic (brave, greatly self-confident, coercive, confrontational).

By improving everything through self-power, possessing courage, and with a strength of will appealing to his surroundings, a type-8 is a personality that can take up leadership. Because he takes command of the Durandal, always stands at the front line of battle, and also because of an attitude that seems to rise above hardship, he is proven to be of this type. Behaving egocentrically and holding influential power over his surroundings, in time he overwhelms other people.

When in a healthy state, there is no existence that becomes more reliable than him. Contrary to his bodily youth, he was supported by a sturdy mental power and an unwavering self-confidence because he demonstrates constructive leadership ability.

However, being exposed to great stress, when his disposition appears to be at an unhealthy state, people around him begin to catch a glimpse of the figure of a tyrant there. It is due to the aggression that is within his own nature becoming prominent.

A type-8 has the tendency to try to rule over his circumstances. When healthy, this is ground in positive thought, and what materializes is leadership in order to improve his circumstances. However, when unhealthy, in order to conquer absolutely everything, what materializes is aggressive conduct.

Because of Jr.'s speech and conduct regarding the Kukai Foundation, it can be inferred that he is in a healthy state. However, as for Jr.'s speech and conduct at the time of the vicarious experience of the Miltian Conflict of 14 years ago through the Encephalon, and at the time of contact with Albedo, it is distinctly indicating an unhealthy state.

Showing both physical and mental bravery, the figure of a heroic Jr., who runs head-on into danger for the sake of something he believes, is not entirely seen as being in an unhealthy state. For the sake of protecting himself, he is extremely aggressive and is driven by a destructive impulse.

At the time of the Encephalon dive, Jr.'s attitude, towards MOMO who worries and Ziggy who tries to grasp the situation, is aggressive yet dominant, and it brandishes his surroundings according to selfish behavior. Also, when he tried to release power due to Albedo's provocation, a merciless, savage aggression appeared as if a binding had been disconnected.

In this way, Jr. is in an unstable state, wavering between healthiness and unhealthiness. This is considered to be something that was caused by the Miltian Conflict of 14 years ago.

* Old-style gun
Jr.'s weapon of choice is an old-style gun. In the practical modern era of laser weapons, it is an old-fashioned weapon that would normally be exhibited in a museum. In the U-TIC Organization, too, guns of the type that use gunpowder are being provided, and there is the opinion regarding the practicality of old-fashioned weapons.

Whether it's a gunpowder-system or not doesn't matter; it must be called a "firing system", for Jr. prefers a weapon that shoots the aggressive power from his skill towards the target. It is neither bodily contact nor a shredding-like attack; it is a preference for the image that channels aggressive power.

It was Jr.'s imagination that controlled the firing of the heavily armed warship Durandal's main battery. Also, the old-style gun, too, is fired according to Jr.'s imagination, and exhibits aggressive power that far exceeds a bullet that is physically shot. This is considered to bolster the image of Jr.'s own aggressive ability which is given to his opponents by the use of a "firing system" weapon. In other words, direct damage is given by Jr.'s released aggressive surge, but in order to channel that surge into an opponent, a gun-like impetus (proxy tool) is essential.

For the sake of promoting imagination by means of a tool, it is necessary to make use of preferred tools. The more he is engaged by making use of a tool that he finds deeply interesting, compared to having used a tool that didn't suit his feelings, the image he promotes will not come to the point of being questioned.

Precisely because of this, Jr. transforms that aggressive power by using a tool only as a substitute. Also because of this such thing, it is possible to infer the intimate connection between his imagination and the tool.

* U.R.T.V.
Jr. is a U.R.T.V., the same as Gaignun and Albedo. However, that fact is not being divulged to the public. The frenzy of the U.R.T.V.s during the Miltian Conflict has instilled in the heart of every person a distrust, a fear towards the U.R.T.V.s themselves. It is a past that is difficult to wipe clean. Therefore, Jr. changed his name and had to conceal his origins.

Also being within the group called the Kukai Foundation, which was established for mutants and by the hand of mutants who are the victims of the Life Recycling Act, he must conceal his true nature. The "incident" that occurred on Miltia of 14 years ago was something that impacts society even up to that degree.

A survivor of the U.R.T.V.s--the special group of people created based on data collected from U-DO, the discarnate entity that threatened the Galaxy Federation in the past, in order to be its anti-existence. His official name is U.R.T.V. unit number 666, Rubedo.

He was born from the same embryo as U.R.T.V. unit number 667, Albedo.

He has the ability to activate the special anti-U-DO waveform mode Red Dragon, which causes mutual destruction upon contact with U-DO. In order to contain that dual-edged power, Jr. has half-subconsciously halted the development of his own body. However, as this mutual destruction extends only to Jr. and the observational terminal part of U-DO, from a cost-benefit perspective, his powers cannot be called a complete anti-U-DO solution.

It is difficult to think that Dmitri, having personally experienced direct contact with U-DO, would have created the U.R.T.V.'s without realizing this. Perhaps it is more likely that Jr. and his kind were created out of a need to accumulate data before Dmitri could ascend to an existence equivalent to U-DO.

In fact, Dmitri, who had been monitoring Albedo's subconscious through Canaan, obtained the Y-Data, revived the relic of God, and proceeded to the Ark in order to become His kin.

Jr. was able to reunite with Albedo through Gaignun's sacrifice. Although objectively his condition became that of two minds inhabiting a single body, his relationship with Albedo is like the two sides of a single being.

* E.S. Asher
chaos and Jr.'s unit. Customized for Jr.'s use. A versatile unit capable of handling both ground and air combat, it is prepared with weaponry that can handle all aspects of battle.

It is equipped with the Erde Kaiser's generator as an auxiliary unit. Though auxiliary, the generator--originally fully tuned to operate the Erde Kaiser--outputs a ludicrous amount of power; enough to operate all weaponry trouble-free at full spec without a Vessel of Anima.

As it escaped from Zarathustra, the Asher restarted itself through this generator--despite having lost its Vessel of Anima. The generator is also outfitted with a self-destruct device to keep its secrets protected.

* PM
Short for "Pistolet Makarova," the gun which Gaignun gave to Jr.

An automatic pistol made in the former U.S.S.R., it was issued to the Soviet army in 1951, replacing the Tokarev TT1933. It uses a 9x18mm round, which is slower and therefore packs less penetrating power than the older Tokarevs. It holds eight rounds in the cartridge plus one in the chamber.

The background story is that this gun, which Gaignun acquired at an auction, was made by the former Soviet Union as a gift to a foreign VIP.

A less known fact, however, is that Jr. had already purchased a SPP-1 at another auction, unbeknownst to Gaignun...

Gaignun Kukai

* Representative Director
Gaignun completely runs the business side of the Kukai Foundation; he leaves the practical side of things like the retrieval of the Zohar Emulators to Jr. and concentrates on providing logistical support. Being involved in the abyss of the world, as long as it is something that can have a big influence on society, it cannot be accomplished with just military might. With that meaning, military power and political power should be talked about as being of the same importance. In addition, political power needs military power and military power needs political power. Gaignun and Jr. are in this kind of relationship. With both of their powers combined it becomes possible for them to preserve the plan for the present condition of the Kukai Foundation. If one side was lacking, the preservation of the Foundation would be difficult.

* Alias
Treating Jr. like an adopted child was a desperate measure to get others to understand the difference in age that was caused by Jr.'s U.R.T.V. powers while still entering his name as a representative director. More importantly, if Jr. had not been able to get actual results in the task of retrieving the Zohar Emulators, they would not have been able to give the job of representative director to a child who only looks about 12 years old, regardless of the fact that he is an adopted child.

There has been much speculation about Jr. and Gaignun's relationship. Because of their economic activities involving the entertainment and tourism industry, Gaignun has attracted a lot of attention as an entrepreneur and, as to be expected, there has been some scandalous gossip. However, for those who face phenomena that are related to the fate of the world, scandals have about as much influence as a mosquito bite. Political power that can be blown away with a scandal was only about that powerful from the beginning. Just as Gaignun and Jr. have two names, the Kukai Foundation also has an official face and a hidden side. The Kukai Foundation's true objective is contained in its real name.

The assumed name "Gaignun" was taken from a kitten he owned with Rubedo.

Representative Trustee of the Galaxy Federation Miltian Autonomous State's special foundation, the Kukai Foundation. Like Jr., he is a survivor of the U.R.T.V. (U-DO Retro Virus) force that was created to combat U-DO.

Named for the alchemical process of blackening as put forth in C.G. Jung's "Psychology and Alchemy." U.R.T.V. Unit Number 669, a variant possessing the name Nigredo (pitch black).

Presently hiding his identity as a U.R.T.V., he fills the role of Representative Trustee for the Kukai Foundation, along with Jr..

Black-haired, with dark green eyes. Calm in personality, he shoulders the trust and expectations of the Foundation members and holds powerful political influence. He was lauded for his defense and unification of victims prior to the enactment of the Species Preservation Act.

He possesses the power to control the thoughts of others and the power of hypnotic suggestion (interference with a person's consciousness), using his voice as a medium.

If Jr. is the practical controlling force behind the Kukai Foundation's activities, it can be said that Gaignun is the political force. It is through the combined efforts of them both that the Kukai Foundation's continued existence is made possible; without either, it would fail.

Taken in by Helmer after the Miltian Conflict, Gaignun inherited the name of Soze Kukai upon establishment of the Foundation. Incidentally, "Soze Kukai" is the name of a fictitious industrialist invented by the Second Miltian government in order to pool special activities capital.

Unlike the other U.R.T.V.s, Gaignun was not programmed to react to U-DO waveforms. His true role was to act as a failsafe in the event that a powerful variant went berserk--specifically, the elimination of Jr..

Furthermore, Dmitri Yuriev planned to extend his own life by transplanting his psyche into Gaignun, due to Gaignun's special powers. After his body was taken over by Dmitri, Gaignun was forced to work towards Dmitri's goals, regardless of his own will.

This ultimately brought about the military occupation of the Durandal and the awakening of Abel's Ark.

Although Gaignun was asleep in the far reaches of Dmitri's consciousness, he was made well aware of Albedo's true desire to be rid of both Gaignun and Dmitri, and made it a reality by forcing Albedo's consciousness into Jr.'s body, so he could annihilate himself along with Dmitri.

Albedo Piazzolla

* U.R.T.V.
Albedo is a U.R.T.V., the same as Jr and Gaignun. Being that it was Jr. who acted as the cause of the frenzy of the U.R.T.V.s during the Miltian conflict of 14 years ago, he searches for atonement from Jr. Also, in that case, for the sake of affirming himself of the present that resulted from having linked with U-DO, he denies and tries to destroy everything that related to himself from before.

Named after the alchemical process of whitening as put forth in C.G. Jung's "Psychology and Alchemy." U.R.T.V. unit number 667, is a variant with milky white hair.

A being with recuperative abilities that surpass even nanomachines in rebuilding speed, he is practically immortal.

Like Jr., he is a survivor of the U.R.T.V. (U-DO Retro Virus) force that was artificially created to oppose U-DO. He developed a mental instability as a result of U-DO waveform contamination during the Miltian Conflict and destroyed the U.R.T.V. force to which he belonged.

Born as conjoined twins with Jr., the two strongly felt like they were a part of each other's body even after they were separated.

His U-DO contamination was the result of the collapse of that psychic bond, caused when Jr. (Rubedo) shut his mind out in fear of U-DO going out of control. Albedo consequently felt that he had been betrayed and abandoned by his other half--his own brother. His obsessive manner when dealing with Jr. was a result of the psychological shock he had received at that time.

His half-mad personality was the result of U-DO contamination, but even before that incident he was unable to understand the fear of injury or death experienced by others due to his immortal condition. Perhaps as a reaction to this, he developed an acute fear of rejection and solitude, and was pathologically with forming relationships with others.

After the Miltian Conflict, he was found lying unconscious under the central shaft of the Song of Nephilim by Sellers, who had attempted to escape from Miltia by forcing the Song to surface.

At this time, Albedo was half-dead, presumably as a result of being hit by waveforms which had been released by Nigredo, the U.R.T.V.s' failsafe and acting executioner.

Once he finally recovered from the attack of his would-be executioner, Albedo turned to the U-TIC Organization and Ormus. He joined forces with Margulis and Sellers to obtain the Y-Data which Joachim Mizrahi had left, although Albedo's true objective was a complete link with U-DO (which is the only possible way of granting his desire for oblivion). Together with Margulis, he doggedly pursued MOMO, Mizrahi's final creation, in order to revive the Zohar that slept on Miltia.

His unnatural fixation on MOMO was the result not only of his desire to seize the Y-Data, but also of the relationship shared between Jr. and the girl on whom MOMO had been modeled, Sakura Mizrahi.

Sakura and Jr.'s friendly behavior caused Albedo to feel lonely and excluded, eventually leading him to enviously wonder how he might interact with others in the same fashion. However, being unable to understand others' pain, and consequently unable to touch their hearts, he could only express his emotions in a twisted manner.

His seemingly cruel behavior towards not only MOMO, but the Kirschwassers as well, was another warped reflection of his envious feelings towards such unity and emotional communion.

Having obtained the Y-Data, revived Miltia, and finally linked again with U-DO, Albedo was assimilated into U-DO, becoming one with its waveforms and awaited oblivion at the hands of Jr.'s anti-waveforms.

While Albedo's true desire was unity with Jr., his choice of death was the only means of escaping from the impossibility of that reality--motivated by the thought that, if unity is impossible, oblivion is the next best thing.

He achieved oblivion at Jr.'s hands by accepting U-DO's characteristics into a part of himself--in his mind, this must have been the best was to get close to
Jr.. His choice to rely on Jr., even though he could have used his U.R.T.V. ability to cause a mutual annihilation effect with U-DO on his own, is further proof of this notion.

While oblivion did grant a portion of his wish, it was also undeniably an effort to escape the reality he faced.

Wilhelm negotiated with Albedo, proposing to unify him with Jr. Albedo recognized his true desire and was reborn as a Testament. Albedo initially attempted to fill his role as a Testament, but instead chose to perish with Dmitri, who had merged with U-DO through Omega.

He attempted to use the power of the Testament to perish with Dmitri, in order to protect Jr.; however, Gaignun took his place at the last minute, effectively fulfilling Albedo's true desire--achieving a true psychic union with Jr.

What was Albedo Aiming for?
Albedo, the immortal U.R.T.V.-- All his actions are from an abnormal obsession with his conjoined twin brother, Rubedo. What kind of ideal was his obsession with Rubedo searching for? What did he come to do in order to realize it?

* Love and Hate
The wish to unite with Rubedo, his conjoined twin, was at the core of Albedo's heart. It was the wish to return the distance of their hearts to the state of when they were born. Because of his own immortality which he realized during training as a U.R.T.V., he was frightened of the possibility that Rubedo would eventually end up dying and leave him behind. His lonely soul got a taste of being rejected by Rubedo when he severed the spiritual link during the Miltian Conflict.

Immediately after that, Albedo was contaminated by U-DO, and due to loneliness and fear, he descended into madness. However, it was nonetheless difficult to abandon his affection for Rubedo, and he wanted to maintain a connection to him, even if it was as an adversarial existence, or as an existence that would aim for his life.

An undying body that can't help but continue to suffer, thirst, and struggle with a wish that can't come true. Eventually, he came to wish for annihilation even more than the eternal longing. And, if it was possible, annihilation by Rubedo's hand.

* Annihilation and Resurrection
On the restored Miltia, when Proto Omega, which had been activated by the Pope of Ormus, tried to make an assault on Rubedo, Albedo appeared and tried to disconnect the Zohar from Proto Omega.

However, he was defeated by Proto Omega's overwhelmingly destructive power, and he was bestowed a real-number domain death. Immediately afterwards, Albedo was restored by the Testaments who had annihilated Proto Omega.

Once again searching for true annihilation by Rubedo's hand, Albedo challenged him to a fight.

* Revival as a Testament
Albedo had first met with death by Rubedo's hand, but afterwards, it resulted in his revival as a Testament. He couldn't let go of his ultimate wish to unite with Rubedo. He didn't care one way or the other about Wilhelm's expectations or Eternal Recurrence. Those kinds of things were none of his concern.

Albedo only wanted another chance to aim for uniting with Rubedo. And as for Wilhelm, he was fine with however Albedo was feeling, etc, as long as it led to Eternal Recurrence as a result. Even though the end result that each was searching for was something entirely different, their interests, as byproducts yielded in that process, coincided.

* The Time of the Merge
Possessing the power of Testament, Albedo tried to annihilate Yuriev, who was tormenting Rubedo. By bringing down Yuriev, who had given them a life of suffering, Albedo tried to free Rubedo from his curse.

Abandoning the purpose for being revived as a Testament, he tried to protect Rubedo. And, due to Gaignun's help, Albedo accomplished the merge with Rubedo. Finally, it was the tranquility which he had never stopped longing and searching for in suffering.

Dmitri Yuriev
The Man who Spits at Heaven

Yuriev, who was a test subject of the U.M.N. living organism transference experiments, came into contact with U-DO during one of the transference experiments and was contaminated. His own consciousness melted into the Collective Unconscious, and he saw a vision where the universe would breakdown before long. That vision was an unbearable fear for him. But, due to that, he also came to understand: This very fear is the shackles that bind humans to the human domain, and by conquering fear, he should become a super-human existence.

In order for that to be fulfilled, Yuriev sought the Relics of God. By collecting the Relics of God, he would ascend to the upper domain--- he tried to challenge what once the extremely ancient civilization could not accomplish.

Yuriev built the U.R.T.V.s, who were anti-U-DO living weapons, not for the sake of annihilating U-DO; He wanted to evolve himself into an existence equivalent to U-DO. In order to do that, he judged it necessary to gain information on U-DO, and he created the U.R.T.V.s. But, among the U.R.T.V.s, there was also an existence that was made for a purpose other than that. It was variant #669, Nigredo (Gaignun).

By coming into contact with U-Do, Yuriev had acquired a special ability--- the ability of possession of consciousness. In other words, by being able to move his own consciousness into another person's flesh, he could plan for longevity. The one that was made to be the vessel to carry his consciousness was Nigredo.

Having taken over Nigredo, Yuriev captured in his hands Abel and the Relic of God, Omega, and he went to board Abel's Ark in order to awaken Omega with the power of the Original Zohar. His ultimate objective was to gain Zarathustra, which, as written in the Y-data, was the key to ascending to the upper domain.

Former Galaxy Federation Parliament Member and donor of the genes used in U.R.T.V.s like Jr. and Gaignun. quite influential during his time in parliament, he retains many connections within the Federation to this day.

Though said to have died prior to the Miltian Conflict, he stepped back onto the public stage at the time of the Ormus-caused space-time anomaly in Miltian space. An ambitious man, and a schemer.

He operates a private research facility, the Yuriev Institute. After his awakening, he takes control of the Salvator faction in parliament as well as military forces and moves to secure the Zohar. A test subject in a living matter transportation experiment conducted in the earliest days of the U.M.N., he made contact with U-DO during the experiment and was contaminated. Additionally, he was the Galaxy Federation's first Salvator.

The terror he felt at the time resulted in trauma which later motivated him to assemble the U.R.T.V.s in the hope of obliterating U-DO entirely. Using the special powers he developed as a result of his contact with U-DO, he projected his consciousness into the body of U.R.T.V. survivor Gaignun Kukai and gripped the reins of the Zohar Project.

What was Dmitri Yuriev Aiming For?
Dmitri Yuriev was head of the Yuriev Institute, reigned at the peak of the Salvator Faction as the first of the Designer Children, was the only survivor of the U.M.N. transference experiments, and lived for hundreds of years. What in the world is he?

* Salvators
The word "Salvators" holds the meaning "Children of the Savior". It is a word that indicates the Designer Children, those who received genetic adjustments at the initial stages of life.

Research and development on the Salvators was promoted as one of the counter-measures against the Immigrant Fleet, who could use a portion of the Zohar's power. The initial Federation Salvaltor was Dmitri Yuriev.

* U.M.N. Organic Transfer Experiments
In the early eras of the U.M.N., organic transfer experiments were conducted. Yuriev was a participant in the experiments as one of its test subjects. During transference, he came into contact and linked with U-DO within the imaginary number domain.

As a result, he was implanted with a fear that could not be wiped away, and at the same time, his consciousness was freed from his flesh, and he acquired the ability of spiritual possession.

* Yuriev Institute
An U-DO research organization established by Dmitri Yuriev in the T.C. 4660s. It unraveled the U-DO phenomenon and developed and raised the U.R.T.V.s as a countermeasure.

Since its backbone consists of Salvators from political and financial circles it is assured both assorted government amnesties and abundant funding for its activities.

It possesses a private force the size of the military of an autonomous state. Although this private force is small in scope, it has absolute command superiority over the Salvators in the Federation military. As a result, it could be said that the entire non-Immigrant Fleet portion of the Federation military is, essentially, under the command of Dmitri's private force.

Yuriev was terrified of U-DO, and sought to conquer his fear. For that reason, and in order to deeply know U-DO very well, he created the U.R.T.V.s using his own genes.

The fear, which was carved into his heart by the experience of having come into contact with U-DO, left behind inside his heart a trace of the existence of a target (U-DO) that leads to that fear. Turning that trace into data, he constructed a program that artificially reproduces U-DO waves within an encephalon.

Because spiritual contamination was caused in U.R.T.V.s that came into contact with these artificial U-DO waves, it is thought that some kind of effective power exists even in the waveform of the waves themselves. Yuriev was seized by the fear of U-DO, and in order to escape from it, he risked everything.

* Yearning for the Upper Domain
By transplanting his consciousness, Yuriev transcended real-number domain death. Even the body that had become the genetic father of the U.R.T.V.s was not his original body; it was just a vessel for his current incarnation, which he had done an unknown number of times.

Citrine

URTV unit number 668. The 668th U.T.R.V. created by Dmitri Yuriev.

She was given the ability to function as a failsafe in the event that U.R.T.V. unit number 666, Rubedo, went out of control. Genetically XX--that is to say, female--her physical capabilities are identical to those of her male counterpart, Nigredo, as a result of Salvator's genetic modification technology. They differ only in that she does not also function as a host for Dmitri.

Sakura Mizrahi

The daughter of Joachim Mizrahi and Juli, upon whom MOMO was modeled.

Suffering from a congenital brain defect, she was unable to speak or communicate her feelings in the real world. While staying at the Yuriev Institute for treatment, she met Rubedo, who was in the middle of anti-U-DO training.

After showing Rubedo and Albedo a meaning to their lives beyond that of weapons fated to eventually disappear, she entrusted to them her younger sister who would later be born--a new consciousness named MOMO--and passed away.

* Sakura's House
The Encephalon created within Sakura's subconscious domain; a visualization of the warm home in her mind.

It was used as a place to carry out U.R.T.V. mental link experiments, as well as to treat Sakura.

Jr. first met Sakura here. For Sakura, it was the first time she had ever met anyone who could understand her words.

Jr. and MOMO
She fell in love to him. (lol engrish)

* The power of outward appearances
Jr. is performing growth suppression by means of his own U.R.T.V. ability, and so he maintains a 12-year-old body. However, his inner self is something on the order of 26-years-old. This is guessed because 14 years ago, the other URTVs each had bodies that were roughly 12-years-old, and so the assumption is that the U.R.T.V.s' year of manufacture was 26 years ago. MOMO was produced 14 years ago, but because she is a Realian that does not age, she has an outward appearance that is roughly 12-years-old.

They are both existences where age cannot be guessed from their outward appearances. However, the influence that outward appearance gives to others is great. Long ago, a subject of study existed, called "physiognomy". It is the study that tries to comprehend the inner-person based on facial features. Nowadays, this is said to not have an objective basis, but it does not change the fact that the human heart reacts according to the image. There is data that states when a person speaks to a baby, their voice raises 1~2 octaves. This is a phenomenon that is generated from the cooperation of two primary factors: that a baby's face arouses a desire to protect in the person who sees it, and that a baby prefers a higher tone.

People like Jr. and MOMO, who possess bodies that are very young, therefore give to those around them a sense of helplessness. If action is not taken to overturn it, they prolong that impression. Conversely, if they succeed in behavior that overturns it, because it is such an extreme reversal of the image, their actions can leave an even stronger impression.

* Sense of being the same generation from outward appearances
That Jr. harbors a desire to protect MOMO, and that MOMO harbors a sense of being the same generation towards Jr., are both impressions due to outward appearance. On the exterior, it is seen as a man-woman relationship of a same generation, but the true nature is vastly different.

Based on that such reality, it is considered to be the reason that Jr. is concerned about MOMO, and the reason that Albedo gets enraged towards being able to touch MOMO, and that is also considered why the reason, which is not just a mere personal thought, is being kept hidden.

It is the Miltian conflict of 14 years ago in the past that greatly influenced Jr.'s current behavior. Jr.'s attitude towards MOMO is considered to be deeply connected to this past as well. But the details are unknown.

* Life-Sized Bunnie Plushy
A Bunnie doll that Jr. bought for MOMO as a present. Apparently, she'd wanted it when they had been sent out shopping together on the Foundation.

As a side note, Sakura Mizrahi also had this same doll, and MOMO's attachment to it may be because of her connection with Sakura's consciousness.

Mary Godwin

A mutant created through Life Recycling. Chief of the Kukai Foundation's First Strategy Division. Together with Shelley, she assists Jr. and Gaignun and supports the Foundation.

Originally an illegal test subject at a pharmaceutical company, she now resides on the Kukai Foundation after being taken in by Jr. and the others. She speaks with what seems like a strange accent from the outer planets and strives to be the galaxy's top comedian--supposedly.

Bright and energetic, she keeps the crew and 100-Series aboard the Durandal in top spirits. She is able to communicate telepathically with Shelley via interlink.

Shelley Godwin

A mutant born through Life Recycling. Secretary to Gaignun Kukai and the Durandal's Operator.

She administrates the workings of the ship according to Jr.'s orders. An intelligent woman with coolheaded and precise judgement. Practically a sister to Mary, who shares her origins. She is able to communicate telepathically with Mary via interlink.

Originally an illegal test subject at a pharmaceutical company, she and Mary now reside with the Kukai Foundation after being taken in by Gaignun.

Alby

The miniature albino dog that Jr. began to keep on the bridge of the Durandal after the death of Albedo.

"He's an albino, so he's Alby," is the reason Jr. gave for the name, though it also suggests lingering thoughts of Albedo.

The dog is very friendly towards Jr. and Shion, but stubbornly continues to dislike Gaignun.

The Kukai Foundation

A unique foundation whose membership extends to both Matthews and his crew. Its headquarters is located on a free orbiting space colony.

The Kukai Foundation was a special organization established soon after the end of the Miltian Conflict, and its sole purpose was to subjugate the U-TIC Organization.

Since then, most of its military forces were decommissioned, and the other divisions branched off into independent civilian corporations, thus forming the basis of the foundation's present structure.

The fact that Vector is one of its primary investors explains why the lion's share of the equipment installed onboard the Durandal, is made by Vector.

A special foundation organized 13 years ago, with the Second Miltian autonomous state leading the effort. Based on a giant, non-orbital colony, most of its membership is composed of victims of the Life Recycling Law. Its Representative Trustees are Gaignun Kukai and Gaignun Jr.

It was established after the Miltian Conflict with the goal of putting down the U-TIC Organization, with the Second Miltian government leading in its creation. Afterwards, it was disarmed and made into a foundation, receiving a huge capital injection from Vector in the process.

Its achievements in rescuing Life Recycling Law victims and offering them livelihoods were recognized, and soon the Foundation had earned itself a positive reputation in society. Ever since a part of it was commercialized, its main business has been in the entertainment and travel industries, but it has a hidden face--amongst other things, it accepted a request from the Second Miltian government and Contact Subcommittee to recover and manage the Zohar emulators.

The Durandal

A 4000m class heavy armor battle cruiser owned by the Kukai Foundation. It is designed to dock with the Foundation's headquarters, a free orbiting colony. Once docked, it functions as the colony's main propulsion system.

A heavily-armed Kukai Foundation ship that extends over 4000 meters in length. Jr. is normally in command of the ship; otherwise, it is run by the sisters Mary and Shelley.

Its front end plunges into the center of the Foundation colony to dock with it, turning the whole ship into a Metropolis. It has now become a tourist attraction, and is even listed in travel guides.

This specialized design came about as the result of careful thought over the evacuation of the colony in an emergency. In such a case, citizens could evacuate directly into the Durandal, which would then take off, abandoning the colony.

The Durandal's activities mainly involve missions from the Second Miltian government or Contact Subcommittee that must be kept from the public eye. As a result, the Durandal's movements are not a matter of public record. The U-TIC Organization has taken advantage of this situation to ensnare the Durandal in the past.

Currently, its contracted mission is to protect the Zohar emulators and hunt down the Gnosis.

Life Recycling Law
In accordance with the words, "Life Recycling", the Law is grounded in the thought of utilizing existing things that have become useless. Because this was the basis of re-using the body of a dead person, under wider interpretations such as effective utilization of genetics, it included the cloning of people, and genetic and neural nervous system transformations.

At first, voices had risen from the perspective of a problem regarding safety, and then opposition regarding an ethical view resulted.

* Ill-effects
As for ill-effects of that Law, there are two varieties: People who became equipment like Ziggy, and the social standpoint of human-type organic weapons like the U.R.T.V.s. In addition, people were produced who had mental instability like Andrew.

Ill-effects such as these had become a social problem that was not learned by observing these people, and so it turned into a hotbed that produced discrimination and crime. The Kukai Foundation's existence, which is described as having the purpose of providing relief to each of those people, is something that is vital to the victims of Life Recycling.

* Uberhumans
During the heyday of the Life Recycling Act, many people opted to undergo artificial procedures to enhance physical abilities or to increase brain capacity. This term is used to describe those individuals or their descendants.

Although Allen refers to them as "mutants," these gifted individuals do not exhibit any external differences when compared to ordinary humans.

Current Federation law prohibits any acts of discrimination against such people, yet feelings of hostility still abound in various corners of the galaxy. The Kukai Foundation not only protects these individuals, but also provides them with a means to support themselves.

U.R.T.V.
U.R.T.V. is the existence wavelength of U-DO

What were the U.R.T.V.s?
The U.R.T.V.s were Designer Children created by Dmitri Yuriev. They were burdened with the role of, and abilities for, anti-U-DO weapons. However, they were nearly powerless against U-DO who exists in the Upper Domain. What could these "U.R.T.V."s possibly have existed for?

* Anti-U-Do Weapons
The U.R.T.V.s, short for "U-DO Retro Virus", were Designer Children who were produced as weapons against U-DO at the Yuriev Institute and based on Dmitri Yuriev's genetics. Because they possessed the anti-existence wavelength against U-DO's wave, they were made for the purpose of mutual annihilation with U-DO.

In order to propagate the anti-wave, it was necessary for numerous U.R.T.V.s to make a spiritual link with a linkmaster. The U.R.T.V. variant, number 666 Rubedo, later called "Jr.", was suited to be linkmaster. This is because he possessed the most powerful anti-wave, and maintained the Red Dragon function that allowed him to amplify that wave.

669 units of U.R.T.V.s were produced in all; four of which were born as variants. Number 667 Albedo, who was Rubedo's conjoined twin, possessed the ability of cellular regeneration. And also, the female 668 Citrine, and 669 Nigredo (later called "Gaignun") both possessed elimination ability to meet the need for surveillance of the linkmaster, Rubedo.

* Anti U-DO Wave
Indicates the thought-waves formed by the U.R.T.V.s.

In order to research the existence known as "U-DO", Yuriev developed an U-DO Simulator, which artificially reproduced U-DO's wave. The U.R.T.V.s also served the purpose of determining whether or not the U-DO wave that this U-DO Simulator emitted was accurate. Yuriev experimented on the U.R.T.V.s who possessed the anti-wave, and by repeated trials and error, he thought that, little by little, he would get closer to the essence of U-DO.

Because they possess the inverted-phase waveform to U-DO, the U.R.T.V.s can nullify the waves emitted by U-DO. The energy supply to the maneuver weapons that make the Zohar an energy source uses this U-DO wave, and the significance of the deployment of the U.R.T.V. force at the Miltian Conflict was to cut off this energy supply.

* Spiritual Link
That which allows the linking of thought-waves.

The spiritual link is performed by uniting the thought-waves that the U.R.T.V.s possess into a standardized wavelength, and with that multiplied effect, they can produce a massive anti-U-DO wave.

* Telepathy
The transmission of thought without the use of voice.

A power of strong thought that is emitted into the external world, and is something that becomes an energy surge.

The U.R.T.V.s are introduced as existences that were produced and adjusted by gene manipulation so that they could form a standardized thought-wave (=intrinsic wave).

The U.R.T.V.s are able to communicate with telepathy that utilizes the thought-waves that each individual one possesses. Just as Gaignun was using telepathy to search for Albedo by means of the spiritual link, if a link is possible, then it is as if physical distance is no longer an obstacle.

During the story, there is seen something that resembled telepathy between chaos and Wilhelm as well.

* "...constantly make sure I watch what I'm thinking."
When telepaths converse with their minds, they must maintain a barrier so that subconscious thoughts are not unintentionally divulged to one another.

* Reason for Existence
Yuriev made the U.R.T.V.s accept, as their reason for existence, that they were anti-U-DO weapons. Even though it was a lie, he did this because, by appointing some kind of single purpose, it becomes easier to control a group. For that reason, in the Miltian Conflict as well, he deployed the U.R.T.V. force. This too was merely an experience in order to confirm to what extent the anti-wave was effective, and it was not something for the purpose of U-DO's annihilation.

* The Suffering of the U.R.T.V.s
It is impossible to eliminate U-DO, who is an existence of the upper domain. Yuriev also, from the start, never had any intention of eliminating U-DO. He didn't think it could even be done. It's just that, in order to deeply know U-DO very well, the U.R.T.V.s were produced as a byproduct of his research. However, the U.R.T.V.s, who had been produced as weapons, came to suffer for their ability and reason for existence, and were tortured by Yuriev's curse. It was nothing but completely meaningless suffering.

* Anti-existence
An existence that is opposite to a specific target.

In the story, U.R.T.V.s and U-DO are treated as anti-existences that possess Inverted-phase waves to each other. Jr., who was deployed as part of the U.R.T.V. force at the Miltian Conflict, recognized that the collision of anti-existences would make a conversion in temperature, and in order to avoid that which would be caused by the collision of spiritual waves, he had no choice but to abandon the emission of the wave.

* Yuriev's Host-Body
Yuriev picked Gaignun as his new host-body. For Yuriev, who had the power of spiritual possession, it was meaningless to have real-number domain immortality like Albedo. Instead, spiritual compatibility was more important.

Genetic factors are also insignificant. The flesh that had become the genetic parent of the U.R.T.V.s was already not the original Yuriev, because it had only been the latest vessel out of an unknown number of prior generations.

* Reason for Existence
U.R.T.V. is an abbreviation of "U-DO Retro Virus", and can also be called "U-Retro Virus". They are organic weapons, Yuriev Institute model, that possess the anti-existence wavelength of U-DO, and were produced by the late Professor Dmitri Yuriev.

As for the reason for existence of U.R.T.V., the point is that they are in a connection of anti-existence with U-DO. Namely, if U-DO no longer exists, then it becomes that the U.R.T.V.s' reason for existence, too, is extinguished. Someone who acts to build counter-power cannot establish his own existence without first there being a power against which he must fight. An anti-existence who doesn't have an existence to "anti-" does not obtain existence. Surely this is also the same as the connection between U.R.T.V.s and U-DO.

The U.R.T.V.s, who were produced for the sake of searching for the possibility of eliminating U-DO, will eliminate their own personal reason for existence when the time comes that U-DO is eliminated.

Presently, the condition is that U-DO is sealed, and the significance that the U.R.T.V.s still exist, that they have not disappeared, is not lost. While the meaning remains that they still exist in the world, with U-DO being sealed, it is necessary to still watch over that for the sake of protecting the world from the threat of U-DO.

This is a typical connection seen also in many legends that remain in the world: the existence of the threat that leads the world to collapse, and the existence that seals it away. There is not complete destruction of one side by the other-- it is a connection that maintains a miraculous balance between crisis and peace. At the present time, U-DO and U.R.T.V. are maintaining that kind of perfect balance. However, there exists a U.R.T.V. who may violate that equilibrium. Having linked with U-DO, the one who is located at the midway point between the two, is Albedo.

When the unleashing of U-DO occurred on Miltia 14 years ago, Albedo received a surge of U-DO, which caused a severe change in his emotional state. He was an existence that was called "anti- U-DO", and because he had received U-DO, he lost the reason for existence that U.R.T.V.s have. For someone who has lost the significance of his own existence, what must he do? Only by seeking a new significance can he affirm himself.

For better or worse, both U-DO and then Miltia were sealed away, and it became impossible for Albedo to re-contact U-DO. To that end, it is considered that Albedo established his own reason for existence-- to seek a re-linking to U-DO.

Just as it is considered that Jr.'s and Gaignun's reasons for existence are to continue to keep U-DO sealed, it is considered that Albedo's reason for existence is to accomplish a second linking with an awakened U-DO. In Jr. and Gaignun's on-going purpose to "continue to seal", there is not an end. However, in Albedo, who makes his purpose the instantaneous event of "allowing U-DO to awaken, and linking", his reason for existence has no continuity. After accomplishing that goal, He must again search for a new goal in order to affirm his own existence.

Even in humans, it is discovered that there are many people who lose sight of the connection of the goal with the means, causing empty behavior like Albedo's.

Someone who made his purpose to enroll into Boromeo University, after accomplishing the instantaneous goal of enrolling, at the destination of year's end, there is the situation that he lives without purpose. Putting himself in the exterior of the social system for the sake of groping for a way of life of becoming himself, he is also someone who keeps living positively while developing a robot that no one has seen.

Where does he discover his own reason for existence? Due to that, the behavior of that individual changes dramatically.

* Performance
If there is no comprehension of the meaning of the existence called "U-DO", then there can be no comprehension of the essence of U.R.T.V., who are anti-existences. Thus, with the state in which the existence of U-DO is not becoming clear, it is impossible to have true understanding.

However, we are able to know the U.R.T.V. performance from Jr., Gaignun, and Albedo.

#669, Gaignun, possesses suggestive ability that controls the thoughts of another person.

#667, Albedo, possesses regenerative ability of bodily tissue, i.e. the power of absolute resistance to damage of the flesh.

#666, Jr., is performing the suppression of physical growth and can even be said to suspend time with his own will. Also, Jr. is considered to be playing the role of central connecter that psychically ties together his other fellow U.R.T.V.s. The reasoning for this is that, on Miltia 14 years ago, because Jr. became terrified by U-DO's fury and rejected the mental link, which caused the other U.R.T.V.s to become completely chaotic.

It is possible to consider that the ability of these 3 U.R.T.V.s is the power to fight against death.

The power of perpetual youth, "growth suppression", is a power of immortality that opposes aging; the power of resistance to injury is a power of immortality that opposes violence; and the power of mind control is a power of immortality that opposes memory lapse. Because of that, is it perhaps that there doesn't exist a difference in ability among the other U.R.T.V.s?

It is considered to be a possibility that the scene reconstructed in the encephalon dive was something that was not entirely accurate. Although it is something that was based on information from Jr.'s memory, a person's memory melts away except for the important portions. In other words, the important memory in Jr. was something concerning Gaignun and Albedo, as well as U-DO, and it is possible to explain that the individuality of each of the other URTVs was considered to be unimportant.

* The Reason for 669 bodies
Why weren't 670 units produced? If we are to consider that, it is necessary to know if there was some kind of performance made especially for U.R.T.V.s in the 660's place.

According to records, both male and female U.R.T.V.s existed; however, the female U.R.T.V.s were more unstable than the male ones, and most were disposed of during training.

Intended for deployment as weapons, U.R.T.V.s were designed to be well-balanced, both emotionally and in their ability. However, the existence of several high-spec individuals far exceeding standard parameters has been confirmed. These are called variant U.R.T.V.s, and they are likely to have different mission assignments than standard U.R.T.V.s.

* Salvator
The children of the Messiah--Designer Children. Like Jr. and Dmitri Yuriev, these are humans who underwent genetic modification during their developmental phase. Ongoing research and development is part of a measure to prevent the Immigrant Fleet from using a part of the Zohar's abilities.

The Life Recycling Law passed in T.C. 4591 is said to have been a shield allowing for the birth of more Salvators. The Yuriev Institute had been controlling research efforts.

* Designer's Children
Humans who have been genetically enhanced during the early stages of the
conception. Indicates the children that were manufactured by conducting genetic manipulation of the form that responds to the needs of parents or those who find it indispensable.

They are referred to as Salvator (Savior), and their appearance, intelligence, and physical attributes have all been enhanced. Their widespread creation was designed to counter the Immigrant Fleet, which is able to use a part of the Zohar's abilities.

The Life Recycling Law, approved in T.C. 4591, was actually created in order to mask this process. The first Salvator, Dmitri Yuriev, was behind this action.

In a broader sense of the term, Jr., Mary, Shelley, and Andrew could also be categorized as "designer children." During the story, Canaan used the label to refer to the U.R.T.V.s who are Artificial Cultured Children.

* U.R.T.V.
Abbreviation for "U-Do Retro Virus". They are the Artificial Cultured Children who were adjusted so that they could form a thought-wave that is the inverted phase of the waveform that U-DO emits.

In all, there were 669 units produced as anti-existences of U-DO by the Yuriev Institute representative, Professor Dmitri Yuriev. They can be categorized into two varieties according to fertilized egg stock, one being the "female body" of the X-type which was important for "mtDNA" preservation, and the other being the "male body" of the Y-type. As for the male-female ratio that finally remained, those of the female body are overwhelmingly scarce. Due to induced mutations, they were born with special abilities; they have exponentially more powerful U-DO anti-existence waveforms and mental waves. Indicates those U.R.T.V.s, like Jr., Gaignun, and Albedo, in whom mutations occurred during gene manipulation.

The 666th variant U.R.T.V. to be born at the Yuriev Institute. Because he was born with red hair, he was named Rubedo, a name taken from C.G. Jung's "Psychology and Alchemy," in which "rubedo" refers to the process of a substance turning red. He was born a conjoined twin, his back attached to unit number 667, Albedo.

Rubedo was the first variant U.R.T.V. to be born at the Institute and possessed a much stronger anti-U-DO waveform than standard-U.R.T.V.s. He united the U.R.T.Vs as a leader figure.

As children, his younger brother Albedo never left his side. Rubedo watched over him with kindness at times and discipline at others. however, their relationship turned disastrous when the U.R.T.V. force faced U-DO, and Rubedo foresaw Miltia and the U.R.T.V.s' future.

Understanding everything, Rubedo cut off the mental link between the U.R.T.V.s, fearful that his existence would be erased. As a result, the standard U.R.T.V.s and Albedo became infected by U-DO. To this day, Rubedo is tormented by guilt for having cut off the mental link.

* Link Master
U.R.T.V.s deploy a mental link in order to emit waves that destroy U-DO. The "link master" is the person who directs this deployment. This role was held by Rubedo, who possess strong anti-U-DO waveforms.

U.R.T.V.s have been conditioned to be able to form a consciousness wave that acts against U-DO. The link master sets this wave, and the other U.R.T.V.s adjust their own waves to match.

* Red Dragon
The combat mode for use against U-DO that is created by Jr. A term referring to the generation mode for the final anti-U-DO-waveform booster.

As Jr. becomes enraged, his body radiates red light. When he enters this mode, it is unknown what kind of power is exhibited, or what kind of transformation occurs in Jr. himself. However, from a conversation between Citrine and Nigredo, the only thing that seems certain is that this mode is something dangerous.

Even among the U.T.R.V.s created to counter U-DO, Jr.'s anti-U-DO waveforms are especially strong.

He has the ability to activate the special anti-U-DO waveform mode Red Dragon, which causes mutual destruction upon contact with U-DO. In order to contain that dual-edged power, Jr. has half-subconsciously halted the development of his own body.

Once Jr. awakens as an anti-U-DO entity, he transforms into what's known as Red Dragon mode. This destructive impulse comes from Jr. losing self-control out of sheer anger; once he transforms into this mode, he cannot restrain his power. Jr. fears this power, as it could possibly destroy all that he holds dear.

* Albedo
The 667th variant U.R.T.V. to be born at the Yuriev Institute. Because he was born with white hair, he was named Albedo, a name taken from C.G. Jung's "Psychology and Alchemy," in which "albedo" refers to the process of a substance turning white.

He was born attached at the back of unit number 666, Rubedo. These type of twins are called conjoined twins, but conjoined twins created by artificial insemination are extremely rare. When they were separated, their abilities were shifted in opposite direction, but Rubedo and Albedo's ability to stop or accelerate cell replication are fundamentally the same.

Rubedo was born with the ability to stop the cell aging process, but he was not immortal. Albedo was born with the ability to accelerate cell replication to amazing speeds; even if his head or heart were completely destroyed, it would always be regenerated. Albedo was not aware, that Rubedo and Nigredo did, of course, not share this ability. When he found out, he was greatly shocked to learn he was the only one to have an immortal existence.

This special ability is activated not by control of the cells of one's own body, but by accessing the structure of the U.M.N. itself.

Albedo's mental state has been unstable from the start, but it has been even more unstable ever since the day he learned the he could not die. To Albedo, this world was nothing but a painful prison in which he would have to continue living even if his loved ones were to die. His greatest fear was losing his other self, Rubedo.

And when Rubedo released his hand, cutting off the mental link, Albedo came into contact with U-DO, and finally stepped past the point of no return.

* Unlimited Telomerase
It means repetition of life and death. Suppression of growth and immortality.

It has been said that the eternal wish of mankind is perpetual youth and immortality. The danger of death increases with old age. As the years add up, the telomeres of the cells grow shorter and regenerative power declines. One can recognize that this is a decline in the power to recover. As a consequence of sensing this deterioration of the body, people fear aging and the circumstances of increased possibility of death. That is the hatred directed toward the increase in danger of a slow, systematic decay, which is different from the dangerous circumstances that accompany the pain of a direct, large-scale injury to the body.

Eternal youth that does not accompany immortality, depending on the effectiveness of suppressing the decline of restorative powers, means a state in which it is possible to pass time without getting closer to death. However, death will come in the event that due to a sudden occurrence injuries are received at a level that cannot regenerate. In immortality that does not accompany eternal youth, one grows, in other words ages, but in response to injuries one has complete restorative powers. If one thinks of aging as injuries to the cells, although changes occur during the developmental growth period, at the stage of preserving the completed body, any further changes, in other words aging, will not occur. If that is the case, one discovers the possibility that it possesses the elements of eternal youth after all.

If one assumes that aging occurs due to destruction of cells, using a general interpretation, shouldn't Albedo, whose cells have become immortal due to telomerase activity, also be able to actualize eternal youth? What kind of difference is there in the fact that Jr.'s growth has been suppressed at the state of 12 years old and Albedo's body has grown to be 27 years old? * Nigredo
The 669th variant U.R.T.V. to be born at the Yuriev Institute. Because he was born with black hair, he was named Nigredo, a name taken from C.G. Jung's "Psychology and Alchemy," in which "nigredo" refers to the process of a substance turning black. He was the last of the 669 U.R.T.V. units to be created, and possesses far stronger mental waves and mind-control ability than standard U.R.T.V.s, as well as the ability to repel U-DO waveforms.

Even as a child, he was calm and mature. He often spent time with Albedo and Rubedo; however, because of their strong connection, he sometimes felt left out.Nigredo was assigned two special missions. One was to prevent the Red Dragon from going out of control and to bring it down if necessary. This mission was also assigned to U.R.T.V. unit number 668 Citrine. The other was a secret mission closely related to his father, Yuriev.

However, Nigredo abandoned this mission and shot Yuriev to death.

A term referring to U.R.T.V. unit number 669, Nigredo.

Nigredo is called this by Albedo since he is imbued with the ability to obliterate U.R.T.V. unit number 666, Rubedo--also known as Red Dragon.

* The Number on the Palm of U.R.T.V.
* Manufacturer's serial number
A number has been engraved on the palm of the hand of the U.R.T.V.s. This is a symbol that indicates each individual U.R.T.V., and is something that won't disappear all life long.

Even though Rubedo, Albedo, and Nigredo were each given their particular names, it is considered that numbers were used for management purposes. From the manufacturer's point of view, because many experimental units needed to be observed, numbers were used to ensure proper management. Though names were decided upon from the hair and iris color of each, perhaps it is something that did not go beyond being used for convenience.

It is also considered that these names, "Rubedo", "Albedo", and "Nigredo", were something that was given by the manufacturer. Helmer of the 2nd Miltian Autonomous Government called Gaignun, "Nigredo", and he responded by saying that it is a name he finds unfavorable.

Isn't it perhaps that Gaignun reacts to it as something unfavorable for the very reason that it is a name that was given during the period of U.R.T.V. experimental units?

And Albedo freely makes use of his given name for the sake of "affirmatively" grasping the acceptance of the essence of being a U.R.T.V.

Again, to begin with, Gaignun and Jr. have altered their names because it is important to them to hide the fact that they are U.R.T.V. in the public eye. But there is not the necessity for such an action for Albedo.

The phenomenon of U.R.T.V.s transforming into infected U.R.T.V.s was confirmed within Sakura's subconscious domain. the visualization of Sakura's fear as U-DO waveforms caused standard U.R.T.V.s to unexpectedly become infected, but Rubedo and the other variant U.R.T.V.s were unaffected.

Many standard U.R.T.V.s look with envy and malice upon the variant U.R.T.V.s, who were born with strong anti-U-DO waveforms and special abilities and receive special treatment.

Standard U.R.T.V. number 623 was assigned with Rubedo and the others on the mission to dive into Sakura's subconscious domain through the U.M.N. in order to cure her sensory impairment congenital disorder.

However, the visualization of Sakura's fear as U-DO waveforms caused many standard U.R.T.V.s to be transformed into infected U.R.T.V.s.

Number 623 managed to avoid the worst-case scenario, but he received a near-death injury from an enraged Albedo in retaliation for the other infected standard U.R.T.V.s having attacked and injured Rubedo.

* Infected U.R.T.V.
A standard U.R.T.V. which has come into contact with U-DO and suffered a mental breakdown.

Because its mind has been destroyed, it cannot make decisions normally and simply attacks repeatedly and reflexively.

U-DO

U-DO indicates the Zohar control system that functions as the core of the U.M.N., but nearly everything about that entity is unknown. There is also the theory that it is "an artificial consciousness that bears a dangerous surge," but it is as if it is not something that was actually made by human hand. The U.R.T.V.s, those who posses the anti-U-DO wave, were produced as its anti-existence. It became that the U.R.T.V. force that was dispatched on Old Miltia in the Miltian Conflict was driven into the pit of madness by U-DO, which caused their frenzy.

* Wave Motion Existence
The wave motion existence sealed on old Miltia. Although it is talked about as though it were a discarnate entity, its true identity is the Zohar controlling system that serves as the core of the U.M.N. and has the name "Unus Mundus Drive Operation".

However, 14 years ago it went out of control, driving the U.R.T.V.s insane and victimizing many people, and invited enough chaos to drop old Miltia itself into 2 black holes. It was the Original Zohar that directly caused old Miltia to drop into the 2 black holes, but it was U-DO that drew the people unto madness.

* U-DO and U.R.T.V.
U.R.T.V. are existences that possess various abilities that are grasping for immortality and because of these powers they are defined as the anti-existence to U-DO.

The U.R.T.V. and U-DO are defined as entities with contrary abilities. That is to say that U-DO is an existence defined by the power of death.

The U.R.T.V. were created as anti-existences to U-DO about a decade before it lost control in the incident that occurred 14 years ago. In other words, U-DO, which was supposed to be the U.M.N. operation system, did not come to possess the power of the death wave because of the aforementioned incident, but instead had possessed the power of the death wave since before the incident.

* U-DO Simulator
A system built by the Yuriev Institute, mainly used for U.R.T.V. link experiments, that creates artificial U-DO waves within the Encephalon. This simulator was also used to conduct adjustment of the U.R.T.V.'s anti-waveforms.

Although the U-DO waves this system produces are purely artificial, there have been several accidents during Encephalon drills that have caused standard U.R.T.V.s to become infected.

The U-DO waveform sample on which this system was based was provided by Dmitri Yuriev, the person in charge of the facility.

* Contamination by U-DO
Those who have made contact with U-DO become aware of the vision of the future that U-DO perceives, and they become frightened. Also, due to this link to an upper-domain existence, Dmitri Yuriev, who was the first test subject of the living organism transfer experiments, gained the ability to manipulate the link between the real and imaginary domains. Specifically, it is the ability to perform spiritual possession at will; the attachment and detachment of consciousness from flesh.

The germination of this kind of fear and the acquisition of an ability that excels in the lower domain is called "contamination by U-DO". The deployed U.R.T.V. force tried to annihilate the Song of Nephilim, a.k.a the U-DO System, but the linkmaster Rubedo succumbed to fear, severing the link. The U.R.T.V. force collapsed, and Albedo was spiritually contaminated. Afterward, Jr. and Gaignun were rescued by chaos and Canaan.

* The Circumstances of the Conflict
A number of causes piled up and developed historically into a giant incident. The Realians went on a rampage due to the "song" that was emitted from the Song of Nephilim Apparatus. A bloody tragedy unfolded around the Serious Nervous Disorder Hospital where the Song Production Apparatus was established. Furthermore, Jr. closed his heart out of fear of U-DO's running out of control and cut the mental link with the other U.R.T.V.s. Because of this the channel that connected the U.R.T.V.s together was opened and left defenseless and due to that they became able to be tainted by U-DO. The rampages of the realians and the U.R.T.V.s turned old Miltia into a battleground. The Galaxy Federation sent in the army to begin the subjugation of the Realians and U.R.T.V.s.

The person who was commanding the Galaxy Federation Army is the person who has currently seized the real power in the Second Miltian government, Helmer. He rescued Jr. and Gaignun who had been seriously injured in the Conflict and after that he was also the person who entrusted the Kukai Foundation to Jr. and Gaignun. At the end ofthe Conflict, the Original Zohar went out of control. The Miltian area of space sunk into the abyss. The Miltian Conflict was a huge incident in history that many people were dragged into as a result of the rampages of three things: The Song of Nephilim, U-DO and the Original Zohar.

The End

Destructive Red, False Black, Lonely White
(The Bonds of U.R.T.V.)

The variant U.R.T.V.s Rubedo, Albedo, and Nigredo. The bonds between the three of them were deep, and at first, they acted like brothers with a good rapport. However, everything completely changed after the confrontation with U-DO at the Miltian Conflict 15 years ago. Albedo's whereabouts became unknown after going berserk from being contaminated by U-DO, and the bonds of the three was completely severed.

15 years later, the three came together once again at Abel's Ark: Gaignun whose consciousness had been overtaken by Yuriev; Jr., who proceeded into the Ark in order to stop Yuriev; and Albedo, who appeared as a Testament to recover Abel and the Zohar. After Albedo had finished his mission as Testament, he ordered Jr. to initiate the spiritual link. By forming the link, Gaignun's consciousness would be housed within Jr., and Albedo alone would try to co-annihilate with Yuriev, who had been contaminated by U-DO.

However, Gaignun rejected Albedo's decision, and he himself wished for annihilation together with Yuriev. Gaignun saw right through him. Albedo was frightened of loneliness as a result of his immortality, and Albedo's true objective was to unify his heart with Jr.

Moreover, he spoke openly that he himself was the stopping power to the U.R.T.V.s that had gone berserk, and that he was the existence that was created to spy on Jr. Now he wanted this mission to be over, that was his wish. "Let's play again, the three of us". Just before he was annihilated, Gaignun's spirit-body, which had returned to the form from 15 years ago, smiled. And then, leaving his comrades who had achieved unification, he disappeared within light together with Yuriev. The bonds of the three had foiled the ambition of the man who tried to become God.

* What was "Program Canaan"?
* Investigative Program
Program Canaan is the general term for the system that is for the sake of searching for ones compatible with the Vessels of Anima, i.e. those who possess the factor of Testament. This program was included in the root system of the brainstem in only an extremely few individuals since the early days of Realian development.

The data collected by Program Canaan is immediately uploaded to the Vector corporation's database, and it is an arrangement that is jointly owned by all Realians installed with Program Canaan. This database, in actuality, refers to the Compass of Order and Chaos. Because that's one portion of Wilhelm's function, Realians installed with Program Canaan come to possess a bypass route to Wilhelm through the Compass of Order and Chaos.

The goal of this Program Canaan is to select Testament candidates, to select those who would awaken the Vessels of Anima, and to incite that awakening.

* Lactis and Canaan
At one time, a Realian called "Lactis" existed. He was a subordinate of Ziggy, back when he was human and acted as the policeman, "Jan Sauer", of the Federal Police. Program Canaan, which had been installed in Lactis, continued to transmit information to Wilhelm on his colleague Erich and his superior Ziggy, who were both holders of the Testament factor, and Lactis acted in order to awaken their factors.

Then, after a hundred years had passed -- after he had been resurrected as the special enhanced memory model Realian "Canaan" -- Program Canaan unconsciously investigated, and transmitted to Wilhelm, the fact that Shion and the others possessed the factor, and he came to act in order to awaken them. Just as human will cannot break free from the spell of instinct, so too the will of a Realian installed with Program Canaan may not be able to freely separate from Program Canaan.

* What is Eternal Recurrence?
Eternal Recurrence restarts the Lower Domain from the Big Bang. Due to this, the impending future of the collapse of the Dimensional Universe can be avoided. On the other hand, as the Upper Domain does not get affected by the restart of the Lower Domain, there is a continuous flow of time, and from there, the Eternal Recurrence of the Lower Domain is observed countless times.

* Eternal Recurrence and Change
Shion and the others' decision became something different from the history that had come to repeat up to then. And because of that, Eternal Recurrence was refused-- it would not revolve once again-- and it came to be that they continued on to a different future.

Where was the main cause of that change?

It wasn't something big, an epic-making event; but rather it resulted from an accumulation of small changes. If viewed from the Upper Domain, each time the Lower Domain repeats, a perfect copy isn't made, and small copy-errors can be discovered. And so, by the small errors that accumulate, a change which sways the core of that repeating history is produced.

* What will Become of the Future that Rejected Eternal Recurrence?
chaos, Nephilim, and Abel made a domain shift to Lost Jerusalem. Shion, Jr., and others set their sights on Lost Jerusalem. They had rejected what had been the only way to avoid the collapse of the universe: Eternal Recurrence. Whatever kind of thing will their future become?

* Urashima Effect
Four thousand years had passed after humanity escaped from Lost Jerusalem, when they had come to reject Eternal Recurrence. Because humanity had escaped from Lost Jerusalem at near-lightspeed, this "four thousand years" was the flow of time that they had felt. The time that flowed on Lost Jerusalem was only a thousand and several hundred years. This Urashima effect will undoubtedly affect Shion and the party who are searching for Lost Jerusalem aboard the light-speed cruising Elsa.

The Elsa crew will come to count a different flow of time from both the Dammerung, which travels at normal speed, and Lost Jerusalem. After several years, what kind of phenomenon might they encounter?

* The Journey to Lost Jerusalem
Even with light-speed travel, will perhaps the Elsa, which cannot use gate jumps, ever reach Lost Jerusalem, continuing on an aimless journey?

But as luck would have it, the Elsa and Dammerung and the rest, which had escaped from the havoc of the domain shift, had been transferred to the same galaxy as Lost Jerusalem.

That was not mere chance.

It was an outcome due to the intention of Wilhelm, the guardian of the dimensional universe. Wilhelm was prevented from accomplishing Eternal Recurrence. But he nevertheless, for the sake of preserving the lower domain, believed in the possibility of the people who rejected him. Even though he shall be rejected by mankind, he exists for the sake of protecting their future.

Just as the powers of Anima and Animus have not disappeared, Wilhelm's power, too, even though having lost his form, is still watching over this dimensional universe.

Epilogue

Shion and the others escaped to beyond the reach of the domain shift.

But just... without chaos, KOS-MOS, or Jin - on the Elsa.

The land where their consciousness sleep, the land where the key to saving the universe sleeps-- Mother Earth, Lost Jerusalem.

Needing to search for that land, Shion and Jr. departed on the Elsa, and those left behind aimed to construct a brand-new network.

While Wilhelm was repeating Eternal Recurrence, maybe he was waiting for an evolution in human consciousness.

Maybe he wished for wills to appear; wills that would try to change the pre-determined future.

Wills that would traverse the thread suspended over the abyss, without ever despairing ... like Shion and the others.
